So, I’ve spent an obscene amount of time creating the calendar system for my world. I’ve had a lot of fun with it. Without giving too much away, there is even deeper lore within this calendar system that I will not clue you into. However, I will happily explain the basic creation of my system.
| Months | Meaning | Days of the Week |
| Lumwian | Yellow Dwarf Sun & Full Moon | Lumwianday |
| Lumnis | Yellow Dwarf Ignites/Flashes | Luminisday |
| Lumincan | Sun begins to shrink, its mass begins to condense | Lumincanday |
| Luthin | Red Giant Phase, is more luminous in this stage | Luthinday |
| Lumweit | Experiences Thermal Pulses & Mass Loss | Lumweiday |
| Lumionen | Becomes a Planetary Nebula, Begins to Cool | Lumioday |
| Luderalus | Turns to a White Dwarf and fades to black | Ludernox |
| Deralus | New Moon | Deralinox |
| Derna | Waning Moon | Dernanox |
| Deroxan | Waxing Moon | Deroxianox |
The first 7 months of the year are named after the stages of a suns death starting at the Yellow Dwarf, which is what our sun currently is, and ending in a White Dwarf or dead sun.
I had a fun time learning about etymology with this creation. Taking some of the key words from the stages of a suns death, I looked at the etymology of those words, then added them to some pre-existing world concepts to create new calendar names.
I am not a linguist, nor am I anywhere near the talent and expertise of someone like Tolkien as far as language creation goes. But he does absolutely inspire me. My story won’t have full blown languages but there is world specific language/lingo sprinkled throughout.
Below is a picture of my brainstorming for this calendar system.

Yes I 100% spent hours learning about the death of a sun. Kind of morbid but absolutely worth every miniscule second of my inconsequential existence. (Nihilism anyone?)
Calendar Events
So, once I got my calendar basics down, I proceeded to spend a substantial amount of time aligning the moons and lunar solar events. Everything I’ve added to this has a deeper meaning. Did it need to? Maybe not. But it is my creation and I am going to go hard, simply because I want to. I want layers. I want depth. I want complete escapism.
Oh, and you guessed it, you’re not going to get all of the lore in this either. But I’ll give you some breadcrumbs.
| Date | Solar Event | Moon Phase |
| Lumnis 1st | Summer Solstice, Month of Complete Daylight | All 3 moons full |
| Luthin 18th | Atumnal Equinox | Moons HALF Full, about to start waning |
| Lumweit 26th | N/A | Waning Moon begins |
| Luderalus 1st | Winter Solstice, Month of complete Darkness | All 3 Moons New |
| Deralus 10th | N/A | Waxing Moon Begins |
| Derna 18th | Vernal Equinox | Moons HALF Full, about to start waxing |
| Deroxan 26th | N/A | Waxing Moon Begins |
Each year has 330 days, each month is 33 days. There are 3 moons, with 330 day cycles and a 198 day shift.
Some of that will be meaningless to some of you, or most of you. That’s okay, it’s my insanity. My tedious, trial and error, mathematic equations that AREN’T EVEN REAL.
I about ripped my hair out with this part of the creation. But I finally got it exactly how I wanted it (Mostly.)
Well that’s most of it, I think…
Chances are, I will find something about this system I decide to tweak. If I do, I will try to update this post.
Thanks for reading ❤

I relied on them heavily to create this system. They offer a ton of other things on their website so if you’re interested you should absolutely check them out.
